Knee Pain in Young Women
Every day you roll roti, mop, and stand at the stove, you may be overloading your knees without realizing it, and a tiny change can make a big difference.
Deep squats strain knees
When you drop into a deep squat, the kneecap gets slammed into its groove and the menisci are pinched, creating several times your body weight on the joint. Doing that for minutes at a time softens the cartilage and leads to a dull ache around the kneecap, especially on stairs.
Standing loads joints
Standing for hours on a hard floor may feel like a break, but it forces the knee to bear the load without the help of the calf pump. The joint fluid isn’t flushed, the thigh muscles tire, and the ligaments take over, leaving the kneecap sore by evening.
Weight effect on knee
Each extra kilogram you carry adds about four kilograms of pressure on the knee with every step.
Low Vitamin D hurts
Low vitamin D is common for women who stay indoors and stay covered. Without enough D, bones ache and the thigh muscles that protect the knee become weaker, so the kneecap tracks poorly and each step feels harder.
Rising load differs
Rising from a deep squat sends several times your body weight through the kneecap. Rising from a 30 cm stool sends only a fraction of that.
Easy kitchen swaps
You don’t need a new kitchen, just a few simple tools. Use a 30-40 cm stool for floor work, place a thick towel or kneeling pad under your knees, and wear cushioned indoor shoes or sandals with a firm heel cup.
Try for a week
For a week, move only the roti-making to a stool and put on shoes in the kitchen. Each night, rate your knee ache on a scale of one to ten. Most women notice a drop within a few days.
The one simple swap
Sit on a 30 cm stool while you roll roti, mop or clean the floor; this reduces the load on your kneecap by a large margin and eases the ache.
