Chai vs Coffee
Ever wonder if your daily chai or coffee affects heart or sleep?
At a glance
Chai has about half coffee’s caffeine. Stop caffeine by late afternoon for an eleven-o’clock bedtime. Generally safe for the heart.
Caffeine totals
What matters is daily total. Five chai cups or two coffee cups both give around 200 mg, a moderate amount.
Heart impact
For healthy adults, moderate caffeine is neutral. If you have arrhythmia or high BP, ask your doctor.
Sleep timing
Caffeine stays about five to six hours, so a four-pm cup affects ten. Coffee comes in big doses, chai is sipped.
Quote
Half of your evening cup still works at bedtime, for both chai and coffee.
Cut-off schedule
Pick a bedtime around ten-thirty to eleven-thirty. Stop caffeine six hours earlier, about four-thirty to five-thirty. Limit chai to four or five cups, coffee to two or three.
Traditional view
Unani and Ayurveda advise moderation; excess tea or coffee is discouraged, but no need to quit.
When to ask doctor
If you have arrhythmia, high blood pressure, anxiety, or are pregnant, get a personal caffeine limit from your doctor.
