Scale vs Waist
Ever wonder why your scale can jump two kilograms overnight? Stick around, because at the end I’ll share the single habit that actually tells you if you’re truly progressing.
Scale numbers bounce
Your bathroom scale reads everything: the water in your cells, the salt from that spicy dinner, the weight of food still digesting, even a full bladder. Those numbers shift daily, while body fat stays the same.
Weekly average trick
Write down your weight each morning for a week, add them up and divide by seven. Compare that weekly average to the previous week’s. Single days will bounce, but the average only moves when something real changes.
Weigh yourself right
Place the scale on a hard, flat surface like tile or concrete. Use the same spot every time. Weigh first thing after the bathroom, before any food or drink, and wear the same light clothing. Stand still, feet shoulder-width apart, looking straight ahead.
Check scale accuracy
You don’t need a lab. Grab a sealed 5 kg bag of flour or rice, hold it close, and step on the scale again. The difference should be close to five kilograms. If it isn’t, your scale may be off.
Typical fat loss
Healthy fat loss is about half to one kilogram per week.
Measure waist correctly
Find the bottom of your lowest rib and the top of your hip bone on the side; the waist sits midway between them. Wrap a soft cloth tape level around, keep it parallel to the floor, breathe out normally and read the measurement.
The one habit to trust
The single habit that tells the real story is to track a weekly scale average together with a monthly waist measurement. The scale shows overall trend, the tape reveals where fat is changing. Use both, ignore single-day spikes.
