Typhoid Home Hygiene
Learn four easy habits that keep your family safe from typhoid, and stay for the one mistake that matters most.
How it spreads
The germ lives in stool, jumps to hands after the toilet, then lands on taps, plates or bottles. Break any link and the chain stops.
Handwashing time
Wash hands with soap and running water for at least twenty seconds after the toilet and before any food.
Kitchen rule
The sick person should not cook, cut, or serve food. Let another family member take over until the doctor says it’s safe.
Water safety
Every drop of drinking water must be boiled in a rolling boil for at least one minute, or treated with chlorine exactly as directed.
Laundry & bedding
Keep stool-soiled clothes and sheets apart, wash them in the hottest water the fabric allows with detergent, then dry in strong sunlight.
Carrier spreads it
A chronic carrier feels perfectly well, which is why they can unknowingly pass typhoid to others.
The one
The single biggest mistake is letting the patient prepare food. Keep them out of the kitchen until the doctor says it’s safe.
