Monthly Testicular Self-Check
Learn a quick habit that can catch problems early, and stay for the key tip at the end.
Monthly check time
A quick two-minute routine each month can make all the difference. It takes only a minute after a warm shower to feel for changes.
Warm shower matters
Warm water relaxes the scrotum, making the skin thin and the testicles hang low enough to feel each surface. That's why the habit follows a shower.
Step-by-step check
Stand in front of a mirror after drying. Hold one testicle with thumb on top, fingers underneath, and roll gently for about thirty seconds, covering front, back, top and bottom.
What feels normal
A normal testicle feels smooth, firm and egg-shaped, with one side a little larger or lower. You’ll also notice a soft cord at the back.
When to see a doctor
If you find a hard lump, notice a testicle getting bigger, heavier, or feel a dull ache lasting days, or see it shrink, book a doctor within a few days.
Sudden pain emergency
Sharp, sudden pain in one testicle, often with swelling or nausea, could be torsion. That's a medical emergency, head straight to the emergency department, don't wait.
Higher risk factors
Risk rises if a testicle didn’t descend at birth, if a father or brother had cancer, if you’ve had cancer before, or simply if you’re between fifteen and thirty-five.
The one urgent tip
The single most critical habit: if you ever feel a hard lump on the testicle, seek medical attention immediately, don’t wait for it to change.
