Stop Summer Makeup Melt

In this video you'll discover a simple routine that keeps foundation, concealer and lipstick from slipping in hot, humid days, and stay tuned for the one trick that makes all the difference.

Why makeup slides

Most makeup sticks thanks to film-former ingredients that dry into a flexible coat. When sweat and skin oil seep from underneath, they loosen that coat, causing slides, creases and patches. Heavy layers accelerate the process.

Humidity level

Summer humidity often climbs to ninety percent, a level that makes the film-former coat especially vulnerable. At that moisture, even a light foundation can start to slide within minutes.

Heat-proof routine

Start with a gentle cleanser and cool water, pat dry, then apply a pea-sized dot of light gel moisturiser. Follow with two finger-lengths of sunscreen, and a thin layer of primer only on the T-zone, waiting a minute or two before the next step.

Blotting vs powder

When shine appears, reach for blotting paper instead of piling on powder. Press a sheet on the oily spot for a few seconds, lift, and the makeup stays put. If a little shine remains, a light dust of powder on that spot will do.

Blot, don't pile on. Every extra layer is one more thing for sweat to lift, and that extra moisture can turn your foundation into a slippery mess by evening.

Sunscreen reapply

If you're outdoors, reapply sunscreen roughly every two hours to keep both skin and makeup protected. This habit also helps control shine and prevents the makeup from slipping as sweat builds up.
