Soaked Nuts & Seed Water
I'll show you how to safely feed soaked nuts and seed water to kids, and reveal the key age rule you must know at the end.
Choking & Drink Rules
A child's airway is as narrow as a straw. Whole nuts, soaked beans, or big spoonfuls of chia can block it. Also, babies under six months should only have milk, no extra drinks.
Safe Ages Overview
From six to twelve months, give a smooth paste of peeled, ground almonds mixed into food. One to three years, you can use ground nuts or thin nut butter and a tiny sip of seed water. Three to six years, still avoid whole nuts and keep seed water under fifteen milliliters.
Seed water limit 3-6 yrs
For kids three to six years old, the safe amount of seed water is no more than fifteen milliliters per day.
Seed Water By Age
Under one year, give no seed water at all. Between one and three years, a weak, strained, unsweetened seed water can be offered in one to two teaspoons occasionally. From three to six years, you may increase to up to fifteen milliliters.
Seed water limit >6 yrs
Children older than six can have up to thirty milliliters of seed water safely.
Emergency Signs
If a child can't cry, cough, speak or breathe, or their lips turn blue, call emergency services right away and start first aid. Use back blows for infants and abdominal thrusts for older kids.
The one rule to remember
Never give whole nuts to any child under five years old; always use peeled, ground paste or fine pieces instead.
