Humid Weather Skincare
Stay fresh when the air is sticky. I’ll show you a three-step routine that works at 80 % humidity and keeps shine at bay.
Why skin feels oily
Your skin’s outer layer is like a brick wall. In humidity the bricks stay fine, but sweat spreads the natural oil across the surface, making it look slick. Harsh cleansers then strip the mortar, leaving a tight, greasy feeling.
Morning routine
Start with lukewarm water and a pea-sized amount of a low-foam gentle cleanser. Rinse, pat dry with a face-only towel, then apply a chickpea-sized gel or thin lotion if your skin feels tight. Finish with two finger-lengths of SPF 30-plus sunscreen on the face and a bit more on the neck.
Typical monsoon humidity
Monsoon days often hover around eighty percent humidity.
Midday touch-up
When the afternoon heat hits, skip another wash. Instead, splash cool water if you’ve sweated, pat dry, and use blotting paper on the forehead, nose and chin for a few seconds. Reapply a thin layer of sunscreen before heading back out.
Sunscreen reapply interval
Reapply every two hours, or after heavy sweating.
Night routine
In the evening, cleanse your face once with the same gentle cleanser, unless you wore heavy sunscreen or makeup, then a second cleanse is fine. Follow with a thin, pea-sized layer of gel or light lotion to lock in moisture.
The one habit to keep skin calm
The single habit that makes the biggest difference is ending your day with a thin, hydrating layer instead of a heavy cream. It gives your skin a chance to breathe, prevents that greasy-tight feeling, and works well with any sunscreen you used earlier.
