Migraine Quick Guide
Later you'll learn the single daily habit that can keep migraines at bay, even on stressful days.
Four migraine stages
Think of a migraine like a storm. First comes a quiet prodrome, yawning, cravings, stiff neck. Then some see a flashing aura, zig-zag lights or tingling. Next is the throbbing headache, finally a hangover feeling.
Prodrome & Aura warnings
Prodrome shows up a day or two before pain, yawning, salty cravings, stiff neck, frequent urination, fuzzy words. Aura follows in five to twenty minutes, with flashing lights or tingling that fades within an hour.
Common desi triggers
In daily life, the biggest triggers are missed meals or long fasts, skipping your regular chai, getting too little sleep or oversleeping, and heat combined with dehydration or strong odors at noisy events.
Quick home relief steps
When you sense prodrome or aura, act fast. Stop what you’re doing, sip a glass of water, grab a banana or a spoonful of dahi, have a cup of chai if you’re a regular, then retreat to a dark, quiet room and lie on the side that hurts less.
The one habit to lower attacks
The single most powerful habit is boring consistency: wake up at the same time every day, eat within an hour of waking, drink two to two-and-a-half litres of water on hot days, and take a short twenty-minute walk most days. This routine raises your migraine threshold and can stop attacks before they start.
