Methi Dahi Hair Mask
Today we’ll test a classic Indian hair trick and reveal the exact ratio that makes it work.
What’s inside
The mask mixes a soaked methi paste with plain yogurt. Two tablespoons of the paste, which comes from about a tablespoon of dry seeds, and four tablespoons of dahi give you the right slip and moisture. Methi is a seed rich in iron and protein, but those nutrients only help when you eat them.
How it works
Methi’s mucilage forms a light gel that smooths the hair shaft, making strands slide past each other. Yogurt’s mild acidity and fats keep the surface flat and add extra moisture. It doesn’t reach the follicle under the skin, so it won’t stop shedding caused by internal issues.
Mask volume
Six tablespoons of mixture are enough to coat shoulder-length hair, and you can double it for longer locks.
How to make
Rinse a level tablespoon of methi seeds, soak them eight to ten hours, then grind with a splash of the soaking water into a smooth paste. Mix that paste with four tablespoons of plain dahi, strain if you prefer a smoother texture, and apply to the lengths first. A fine sieve or cheesecloth removes extra grit, making the mask smoother and less smelly.
Tips & tweaks
More methi makes a thicker, stickier mask that’s harder to rinse and smells stronger. More dahi thins it, giving less slip. Leaving it overnight lets the yogurt sour and can invite dandruff, so keep it to twenty-thirty minutes. If you have a peanut or chickpea allergy, test a small spot first, because methi belongs to the same plant family.
The one ratio that works
If you want that silky slip without expecting regrowth, stick to two tablespoons of soaked methi paste and four tablespoons of plain dahi. Apply, leave for twenty-thirty minutes, then rinse and shampoo.
