Jet Lag in 3 Days
Stay tuned for a simple light trick that beats jet lag fast.
What jet lag really is
Inside your brain sits a clock that still thinks you’re on Karachi or Delhi time after you land. Light hitting your eyes tells it what hour it really is, and the clock naturally moves about an hour a day. By catching light at the right moments you can speed that up.
Time difference to Saudi
Saudi Arabia is two hours behind Pakistan and two-and-a-half behind India.
Day 1, Evening Light
When you fly west to Makkah or Madinah, your body thinks it’s later than the local clock. Spend thirty to sixty minutes outside in the late afternoon and evening, and keep the morning sun out of your eyes for the first two days. Wake up at a fixed local time, even if you’re tired.
Day 2, Same Evening
Do the same evening light routine on day two. Set an alarm for the local pre-dawn time, like five a.m., and get up for Fajr even if your sleep was short. Consistency helps the clock shift faster.
Day 3, Normal Light
By the third morning you’ll notice you’re more in sync. Get regular daylight throughout the day; most people feel settled by now. You can ease back to normal morning light if you like.
Meals on Local Time
Your gut has its own clock, so start eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at the new local times from day one. Keep portions tiny if your body tells you it’s midnight, and if a 3 a.m. hunger hits, just sip water and go back to sleep.
Nap Length
If you need a nap, keep it short, twenty to thirty minutes, before 3 p.m. local time, and never longer on the first day.
Flight Tips
When you board, change your watch to the destination time. If it’s night where you’re heading, try to sleep; if it’s day, stay awake by reading or walking the aisle. Bring an eye mask, foam earplugs, a neck pillow and socks for comfort, skip sleeping pills.
The one rule
The single most effective habit is to match light to your travel direction: chase evening sunshine after a westward flight, and seek morning sunshine after an eastward one. That simple timing shift gets your clock in sync fast.
