Cold Brew Basics

In this video you’ll discover how to brew tea at home that stays smooth, never bitter, and the one simple trick that makes all the difference.

Keep Fridge Cold

Your fridge should stay at five degrees Celsius or lower; a colder fridge slows bacterial growth, so your cold brew stays safe even on scorching summer days.

Fridge Rules First

Never brew on the counter. Use boiled-cooled or filtered water, and start with a clean, dry jug, no old film, no residue, so nothing unwanted ends up in your tea.

Brew Time

Green tea needs six to eight hours in the fridge, while black tea benefits from eight to twelve; these times extract flavor without pulling out the harsh tannins.

Make Cold Brew

For a litre of cold brew, add four level teaspoons of loose green tea, or four tea bags, to a clean bottle, pour in cold boiled water, give it a quick stir, cover and refrigerate, then strain without squeezing the leaves.

Quick Iced Tea

If you’re in a hurry, make a double-strength hot brew: boil 250 ml water, steep two black tea bags for three minutes (or green for two), then cool, add ice and water, and never squeeze the bags.

Sugar Check

To gauge sugar in store-bought iced tea, check the label for grams per 100 ml, multiply by the bottle size, then divide by four to convert to teaspoons; a homemade unsweetened brew has zero.

Heat vs Cold

Remember, the same leaf and water give different results: hot water extracts the bitter tannins, while cold water leaves them behind, delivering a sweeter, clearer cup.

Cold Brew Verdict

Verdict: cold brew is definitely worth the extra patience, it's smooth, less bitter, and you control the sweetness, making it a great summer refresher.
