Curd & Milk: Fact
Find out whether curd and milk together really trouble your gut, and the simple fix you’ll hear later.
Can they be eaten together?
For a healthy adult, mixing curd and milk is fine, whether in the same glass or one after the other. No toxin forms, and the only issue is how much dairy you consume at once.
Verdict
Ayurveda calls the combo a bad match, but for most adults it’s safe, no waiting gap needed.
Quick fact
Your stomach already curdles milk in minutes; dahi just did that work before it entered your body.
Make curd at home
To make homemade curd, boil a litre of milk, cool it to warm, stir in a couple teaspoons of fresh dahi, keep it warm for six to eight hours, then chill in the fridge.
Lactose in milk
A typical 250-ml glass of milk carries about twelve grams of lactose, while a bowl of dahi contains less because the bacteria consume some of it.
Who may feel it
If you’re lactose intolerant, the combined dose can cause gas, rumbling, or loose stools an hour or two later. Reflux sufferers and those eating huge dairy portions might also notice heaviness.
Set time
Traditional curd setting takes six to eight hours in warm weather, extending to ten or twelve in cooler months.
The one tip
The single most useful tip: if you’re sensitive, keep the dairy amount modest, cut the milk, not the dahi, and enjoy your curd-milk dishes without worry.
