Chia Water & Pudding
In this video I'll walk you through the exact chia soak ratios, timing tips, and the single safety trick that can prevent a choking hazard.
Making Chia Water
Take a cup of room-temperature water, add one level tablespoon of chia, stir vigorously for thirty seconds, wait five minutes, stir again to break any clumps, then let it sit at least fifteen minutes until every seed is coated in clear gel.
Minimum soak time
A minimum of fifteen to twenty minutes lets the chia swell into a smooth, slippery gel that prevents the seeds from clumping and makes the drink safe and easy to swallow.
Chia Pudding Basics
For pudding, mix three level tablespoons of chia with a cup of milk or thinned yogurt, give it a quick shake, wait five minutes, stir again to break lumps, then refrigerate for at least four hours or overnight until it firms up.
Calories per spoon
One tablespoon of chia packs about fifty-five to sixty calories, four grams of fiber, two grams of protein, and a plant-based omega-3 fat called ALA, making it a modest but nutritious addition to your diet.
Remember: soak first, then swallow. Skipping the soak can let dry seeds expand in your throat, creating a gel plug that may require medical removal. Always let the gel fully form before drinking.
The one mistake to avoid
The biggest mistake is gulping dry chia and chasing it with water. Always let the seeds fully gel in liquid, or mix them into moist foods like yogurt or oats. Children should only have fully soaked chia, never a dry shot.
