Bhumi Amla & Jaundice

In this video we’ll look at Bhumi Amla, how it’s traditionally used for jaundice, what science actually says, and the single test you must do before trying it.

Why test first

Jaundice means bilirubin is building up in the blood. It can come from hepatitis, gallstones, medicines, or other issues. A simple blood test can pinpoint the cause and guide the right treatment.

Urgent signs

If the person with yellow eyes is pregnant, confused, very sleepy, vomiting, bleeding, has a high fever, severe pain, or a swollen belly, they need urgent medical care right away.

What tradition says

Traditional healers grind the whole Bhumi Amla plant, roots, stems, leaves, tiny fruits, into a green paste and mix it with buttermilk or water each morning. In viral jaundice the eyes often clear in a few weeks, regardless of the paste.

Verdict

Research shows the plant has active lignans and may protect liver cells in the lab, but human studies are inconclusive. It’s not a proven cure for hepatitis, jaundice, or stones, and should only be used as a supplement after a doctor’s diagnosis.

Herb safety

Herbal and dietary products can actually injure the liver, especially when it’s already inflamed. If your ALT or bilirubin rises after starting any herb, stop it, tell your doctor, and keep the packaging for reference.

Buy & store

To pick the right plant, look for thin stems with small oval leaflets in two rows, like a tiny fern. Buy powder that lists the botanical name, batch, expiry, and a reputable registration number. Store it airtight, away from light, and use within a year.

The one thing

Before you start Bhumi Amla, get a blood test to confirm the cause of jaundice. The test tells you whether the herb might help, be unnecessary, or even risky.
