Best Diabetic Tea
In this video we’ll show you which teas are safe for diabetes and how to enjoy them without sugar.
Herbal teas okay
Most herbal teas are fine as long as they’re unsweetened. Green tea, kahwa with cardamom and cinnamon, and caffeine-free herbs like saunf, zeera, pudina and babuna keep blood sugar steady.
Sugar calories
A teaspoon of sugar adds about sixteen calories, and two teaspoons a day can easily push you past thirty-two grams of sugar from chai alone.
Cut sugar & cream
Swap full-cream for low-fat milk, use a splash instead of a ladle, brew the leaves fully so the tea has body, and add a crushed cardamom pod or a thin slice of ginger for natural sweetness.
Jaggery tea? No
Gur, or jaggery, is just boiled sugarcane juice. It may look rustic, but it’s still sucrose and raises blood sugar just like white sugar.
Spice teas verdict
Cinnamon, methi and karela teas are popular ‘sugar teas’ but their impact is small and inconsistent. They can even cause low blood sugar if you’re on insulin or sulfonylureas, so check with your doctor first.
Kahwa recipe
Here’s a quick Peshawari-style kahwa: boil 500 ml water with two crushed cardamom pods and a two-centimeter cinnamon stick, simmer three minutes, cool to eighty degrees, add a level teaspoon of green tea leaves and steep two to three minutes.
The one swap
The single most useful change is to ditch full-cream and sugar, and instead use a splash of low-fat milk with your tea, it cuts calories and keeps flavor.
