What is Arq Ajeeb?

Arq Ajeeb is a strong liquid made from three crystals, menthol, camphor and thymol. Traditionally it’s dabbed on temples for headaches, on sore muscles, or even dropped on sugar for stomach cramps.

Key Crystals

The three ingredients are pure crystals that melt together at room temperature, forming a clear liquid without any water. Menthol comes from mint oil, camphor from kapoor, and thymol from ajwain oil.

Children & Camphor

Camphor is a nerve poison when swallowed, and children are far more sensitive. Even a tiny lick can cause vomiting, confusion, or seizures. About a third of the liquid is camphor, so a splash is enough to be dangerous.

Potentially fatal dose

Around one gram of camphor can be fatal for a small child. That’s roughly a third of a typical bottle of Arq Ajeeb, meaning even a small spill can be life-threatening.

If swallowed, act fast

If a child swallows Arq Ajeeb, go to the nearest emergency department immediately, even if they seem fine. Bring the bottle for the doctors, do not induce vomiting, and avoid giving milk, ghee, or oil.

Buy & Store Safely

When buying, choose a sealed bottle with a printed batch number, expiry date and full ingredient list. Store it tightly capped, high up out of toddlers’ reach, and never decant it into another container.

Verdict

Given the high poisoning risk for children and the lack of medical benefit, we recommend skipping Arq Ajeeb altogether. It’s not worth any danger to anyone.

The one rule to keep everyone safe: never let Arq Ajeeb be within reach of a child. Store it high, locked, and out of sight at all times.
