Aak & Dhatura Danger

In this video you'll learn how to spot these poisonous plants, recognize early poisoning signs, and the exact first-aid steps you can take at home before professional help arrives and keep your loved ones safe.

Spotting Aak & Dhatura

Aak, also called Calotropis, is a grey-green shrub with thick oval leaves that ooze white milky latex when broken. Dhatura, the thorn apple, has large uneven leaves and a distinctive, unpleasant smell. Both plants appear near homes and fields.

Why Dhatura is toxic

Dhatura contains natural alkaloids like atropine and scopolamine that block the nerves controlling sweat, salivation, eye focus and heart rhythm. The result is anticholinergic poisoning, with symptoms such as fever, dry skin, flushed face, huge pupils and blurred vision.

Eye rinse time

If Aak latex splashes into an eye, hold the eyelids open and flush with clean running water for at least fifteen minutes. This simple step can prevent serious damage. Do not wait for pain to subside.

First aid steps

For skin exposure, wash the area thoroughly with soap and plenty of water for ten minutes, removing any contaminated clothing. Never rub the area, and avoid home remedies like milk, honey, or rose water. Dry the area gently after washing.

Skin wash time

When the latex touches skin, a ten-minute wash with soap and running water reduces irritation and prevents blisters, especially on thin or child skin. This also lowers the risk of infection.

The one eye-saving step

The single most critical action if Aak latex gets in your eye is to rinse continuously with clean water for at least fifteen minutes, without rubbing, and seek emergency eye care that same day.
