7-Day Meal Prep Reset
In just one hour on Sunday you can set up two ready-to-go meals, chop veggies, and have a smoother, less stressful week ahead for the whole family.
Why Sunday Prep Works
Most weeknight takeaways happen at six o’clock, when nothing’s decided and everyone’s hungry. By prepping ahead you remove the decision point and half the chopping, shrinking cooking time from fifty minutes to just twenty.
Day 1: Plan Meals
Start by writing down five dinner ideas on paper, using what your family already loves, daal, sabzi, rice, egg bhurji, or khichdi. First check your pantry, then add any seasonal fruits or vegetables you need.
Day 2: Shop Smart
Head to the store with a phone note list that includes only the ingredients for those five meals plus pantry staples. Stick to the list, avoid wandering aisles, and leave behind wilted bundles.
Cool Within Two Hours
The CDC advises that any perishable food should be cooled and placed in the fridge within two hours of cooking, or within one hour if the outdoor temperature exceeds thirty-two degrees Celsius.
Date Label Trick
Grab some masking tape, write the cooking date on each container, and stick it on the lid. When you check the fridge on the third day, discard any boxes older than that.
Take Care If Vulnerable
Pregnant women, older adults, young children, and anyone with a weak immune system should be extra careful, chill and reheat foods promptly. Never taste anything that smells off, and see a doctor if diarrhea lasts more than a couple of days.
Fridge Temperature
Keep your refrigerator set at four degrees Celsius, or about forty degrees Fahrenheit, to ensure that perishable items stay safely cold and inhibit bacterial growth.
The One Habit
The single habit that ties everything together is labeling each container with its cooking date and reheating it until it’s steaming hot all the way through, stirring halfway for even heat.
