Desi Food Portion Calculator

Pick a food and how much you ate. You get a range, because two rotis from two kitchens are never the same.

medium roti (about 30 g atta)

Size and thickness matter more than anything else. A thin phulka is at the low end.

Why these are ranges

A roti's calories depend on its size and thickness, a biryani's on the oil and the rice-to-meat ratio, and a daal's on its tarka. Restaurant portions are usually bigger and oilier than home ones. Giving you one exact number would be pretending.

How to weigh food, once

  1. Put an empty plate or katori on a kitchen scale and press zero.
  2. Add your usual portion and note the grams.
  3. Do it for a few meals you eat often. After a week you'll know your own portions by eye.

Limits of this tool

These are estimates for healthy adults' everyday planning, not a medical diet. If you have diabetes, kidney disease, are pregnant, or are managing weight with a doctor, follow their targets.
